对《热带作物学报》1991～1995年的来稿的数量、采用率、地区分布、学科分布（研究对象、领域）进行统计分析，并根据稿件临界采用率（P）对稿源的调节作用及学报稿源实际潜力，探讨改善稿源状况的策略与措施。学报应不断提高质量，进一步扩大影响；改善办刊条件，缩短办刊周期；适当拓宽报道范围，加大报道量；认真做好来稿的管理，建立作者队伍；合理地确定其稿件临界采用率，以对稿源进行有效调节。
