宋元以降,“墨戏”时常出现于画论之中。尽管很难给它下一个严密的定义,但它客观上代表了文人画的审美倾向。在我看来,“墨戏”不是一个一般性的绘画术语,而是一个重要的、独特的绘画美学范畴,它深刻体现了中国画的民族特色,也展示了中国近古时期绘画发展的趋势。 首先,要弄清“墨戏”的本体意义究竟是什么。笔者拟在这里作如下较为完整的表述:“墨戏”是中国画的一种独特品类,属文人画范畴,“墨戏”的作者都是文人士大夫,他们以一种游戏式的创作态度即兴写意,以水墨为艺术传达语言,以超越形似、脱略既成的画法模式为其美学特征。这是本文对于“墨戏”所作的初步的、探索性的概括。
