广西地质学会于五月廿一日至廿六日在南宁召开庆祝本会成立廿周年暨第三届会员代表大会。区科协、区地质矿产局、区冶金工业厅、区煤炭工业厅、区石油化工厅、区电力工业局等单位及广西金属学会、水电工程学会、测绘学会的领导或代表应邀出席了开幕式。 中国地质学会给大会发来了贺电。 大会由第二届理事会吴英甫理事长致开幕词,区科协副主席杨练民同志在开幕式上讲了话。陈勤五副秘书长代表第二届理事会向大会作了工作报告,中国地质学会钟铿理事传达了中国地质学会第33届理事会精神和《2000年中国地质》讨论会情况,高志斌副理事长
