The controversy over Punjab between the Congress and the Muslim alliance intensified the conflicts among Punjabi Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism around India and Pakistan. In March 1947, a large-scale sectarian violence broke out in West Punjab, accelerating the division of India and Pakistan. As divisions approached, the violent clashes of sects in August again raised their climax, first in the east Punjab and then in the entire Punjab. The Punjab sectarian violence that accompanied the separatism between India and Pakistan in 1947 not only resulted in a large number of casualties and property losses, but also laid the root cause of mutual hatred between India and Pakistan.
