According to Jane’s Defense Weekly, Russia is developing a new self-propelled air defense system known as Armored S1 designed to defend strategic objectives such as airports and command centers. The system is believed to be in the prototype phase, ready to be installed at the rear of a new 8 × 8 front-pull truck, probably a KamAZ. Armored vehicles S1 were stabilized with four outriggers when deployed at launch positions. The basic concept of the S1 is somewhat similar to the covert-mounted European Land Roland surface-to-air missile system mounted on the rear of a German MAN (8 × 8) highly mobile off-highway truck, but its performance is much stronger than the Roland system, although it is unclear Whether it can be removed from the back of the truck and deployed like a concealed-mounted Roland system on the ground.
