峨嵋县位于四川西南,县内峨山山脉纵横棉延,基本上属于山区,气候差异大,雨量充沛,土壤较为肥沃,适宜于多种农副土特产品的生长,特别是药料。全县产药材1,100种,尤以黄连、天麻、峨参、峨三七等著名。此外,其它经济作物产量也较丰富,矿产品蕴藏量也较大。解放前国民党反动派,根本不关心人民疾苦,无视药材生产,生产的中药材,成为地主、奸商吮吸农民膏血的物资条件。1949年临解放时,仅生产了家种药材黄连、牛夕两种,野生药材大部份没有开发,其中黄连年产量亦只60余担,每斤只换大米4斤,严重地打击了生产,当时药材上市品种仅30种左右。解放后,党对中药材生产极为重视。我们遵循着党中央和毛主席的指示,在县委的正确领导、人民羣众的努力下,中药材生产有较快的发展。1958年家种药材为2,211亩,比1952年上升21倍。野生变家种试种成功的有天麻、硃砂连等64种。
