According to media reports, a 100-megawatt Czochralski solar cell and module solar PV project was officially put into operation at Wuhan East Optical Industrial Park. Due to the technology used in the project, the amount of polysilicon used as raw material for solar cells can be drastically reduced, making it the lowest cost solar cell in the world. The project is funded by NASDAQ-listed US Evergreen Solar Co., Ltd. in China. It is a joint venture with Jiawei Solar Energy Co., Ltd. with a total investment of 450 million U.S. dollars.
