《红楼梦》的两位译者,杨宪益与霍克斯,本着不同的翻译目的,在其翻译中分别采用了以异化为主上和以归化为主的翻译策略。比较两个译本我们发现,杨宪益采用了语义翻译和文本翻译,而霍克斯则采用了更多的交际翻译和工具翻译,总体来说,杨宪益在保存中国文化特色方面做得更好。 The two translators of “Dream of the Red Chamber”, Yang Hsien-yi and Hawkes, used different strategies of translation mainly based on alienation and domestication in their translations. Comparing the two versions, we find that Yang uses the semantic and textual translations, while Hawkes uses more communicative and tool translations. In general, Yang Xiangyi did a better job of preserving the Chinese cultural identity.
