第九届全国美展是世纪末我国美术最后一次综合展示,是对近5年美术的一次集中检阅。版画展区评出的391件作品(不含评委作品),无论就精神意蕴、语式形态、还是就媒体技艺而言,都既是近50年乃至新兴版画70年历史的积淀,又是对当代世界多元文化格局交汇,感应的结果。这其中当然蕴含着版画家们对传统的省察,批判及对西方现代主义艺术的吸纳与反思,但当版画态势由激进趋于稳健,由躁动走向平和时,便越发显示出其转型后的自主与成熟。
