范小青在新世纪的创作一直关注底层人物的生活,其中一个鲜明的主题是现代人的身份焦虑。她表现进城农民工的身份被各种证件、方言口音、城市话语权所决定,难以获得城市的认同进而融入城市,处于深重的焦虑之中。她笔下的城市底层民众也经常陷入身份的尴尬与焦虑,比如因为名字、生日等问题的不确定而产生一种紧张情绪甚至虚无感。范小青在剥离了人生的表象后,努力以“寻找”为手段,为“无根的人”提供确证自我的途径。

For example, her name, birth date and other issues are uncertain, which creates a sense of tension or even nothingness. Fan Xiaoqing stripped the appearance of life, trying to “looking for ” as a means for “rootless people ” to provide a way to confirm themselves.
