由中国科学院南京地理与湖泊研究所孙顺才、黄漪平主编的《太湖》一书,是该所科研人员多年来对太湖及太湖平原湖泊进行多次综合调查与系统研究的科学总结。包括湖泊水下地形测量、水文要素及湖流、波浪等动力要素的观测,并在湖中打下了一系列的浅、深钻,对数以万个的水、土质样品进行了系统的分析所获得的结果。由于在野外工作中,尽可能使用了最新的仪器设备,如浅地层剖面仪、测深仪、测流仪,克服了一系列技术上和湖面作业的难关,因而获得了大量的第一手最新资料。其中许多资料还是来自湖中长期定位观测和实验室较高精度的分析,有些则包含有中日、中美合作的研究成果。因此,书中资料翔实,内容丰富,不仅方法新,还提出了一些新理论、新观点:如太湖的形成演化、湖流数值模拟、定振波定位观测等。
