Objective To explore the effects of lifestyle intervention centered on exercise management on blood glucose and islet function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods Sixty patients with early stage T2DM with HbA1c <8.5% (duration <1 year) were randomly divided into general management group (A group, 30 cases) and exercise management group (B group, 30 cases). Group A was given metformin 0.5g twice daily orally; Group B performed regular aerobic exercise. 1 year after the assessment of dynamic blood glucose and related indicators. Results After intervention for one year, the improvement of blood glucose and islet function in group B was better than that in group A (P <0.05). Conclusion Exercise-based lifestyle intervention significantly improves blood glucose and pancreatic islet function in patients with early-stage T2DM.
