Ethnic lute Folk lutes All lute has a resonance panel and a neck, a few strings across the length of the neck from the bottom of the panel. The national dials are scattered throughout many parts of the world and made in many different shapes and sizes. The main differences are the relative length of the body and neck, the shape of the back plate, the number of strings and the presence or absence of strings. The figure below shows the neck length.
