刘天华(1895—1932)以“十大二胡名曲”和成立“国乐改进社”(1927)以及将二胡、琵琶等民族乐器在北京三所高校(北京大学音乐传习所、国立女子大学音乐科和国立北京艺专音乐系)开设专业课程而成为中国二胡学派的开拓者与奠基人。他提出一个著名论断:“胡琴当然不能算做一件最完美的乐器,但也不如一般鄙视它的人想象之甚。……我希望提倡音乐的先生们,不要尽唱高调,要顾及一般的民众,否则以音乐为贵族们的玩具,岂是艺术家的初愿。”~①1949年建国后,二胡音乐创作时代风貌、乐器改革、演奏技法、社会普及教育在50年代形成一个欣欣向荣局面,迎来了二胡艺术史上
