1998年,湖南省某评估机构宣布:通过严谨的数据论证及严格的评估,中国科学院院士、我国著名的杂交水稻专家袁隆平的个人品牌价值(无形资产价值)为人民币1008.9亿元,完成了首次将中国科学家的科技价值以货币形式量化的尝试,在业内产生了轰动效应。可惜的是,在此后的十年中,类似的活动似乎销声匿迹了,有关中国科学家及中国科技的话题已不再是大众媒体关注的对象。虽然,每年都会出现形形色色、光怪陆离的“品牌价值”的“评选”、“榜单”等等,但始终看不到科学与科学家的影子。“品牌价值”似乎只对商业、企业、财富与娱乐等领域情有独钟。
