The basic principle, structural characteristics and application prospect of microwave plasma thruster (MPT) are analyzed and discussed in detail. Based on the analysis of the existing theoretical and experimental research results, it is considered that MPT is a small thrust power device with high specific impulse and long life , Is particularly suitable for use as a space power for spacecraft orbital transfer, attitude control, position keeping, docking rendezvous and interstellar navigation. Although the MPT is still in the stage of theoretical exploration and experimental research, the results show that it is a promising new space power system.
