In the mid-to-late 1980s, the former Soviet Union was the world’s largest exporter of arms. According to the constant value of the U.S. dollar in 1985, a total of 60.753 billion U.S. dollars of conventional weapons were exported from 1986 to 1990, surpassing the U.S. figure of 7.037 billion U.S. dollars. However, from 1990 to the end of 1991, the dissolution of Warshaw and changes in the political situation in the Soviet Union have seriously affected the arms exports of the former Soviet Union and its position in the world’s arms export market has also dropped. In 1991, the Soviet arms exports dropped from 37% of the world’s total sales in 1987 to 18%. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Russia took over the arms exports of the former Soviet Union. In the past year or so, the most obvious feature of Russia’s arms exports is the change in the area of export of arms. This article only makes some analysis on this issue.
