Combining a common dynamic cell design with architectural innovations will provide the largest byte-tolerant RAM to date with quasi-static storage capacity of 32K bits. Zilog’s Z6132 is an ordinary single-pipe dynamic RAM cell, and its structure is composed of 4K × 8 memory. However, in order to maintain cell data regeneration, the chip also includes regeneration counters and control lines. The Z6132 is fabricated using a two-layer polysilicon N MOS process with a transistor cell area of 0.53mil ~ 2 and a depletion mode load. Dynamic lines minimize the need for power. The device’s pin-out takes separate address and data pins, however, as with most 16-bit microprocessors, allowing address / data to be multiplexed.
