Japan Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) announced that it will provide users with the opportunity to test compatibility with their ISDN equipment and NTT telecommunications network facilities before ISDN improvements. NTT plans to first improve his CCITT-compliant ISDN service by introducing a basic-rate INS-Net 1500 packet and circuit-switched service. The primary rate INS-Net 64, developed in April 1988, is only circuit-switched and will also be improved to provide packet-switched services. These tests, from mid-January 1989 to March or April 1989, allow users to connect their ISDN equipment to NTT’s software development switches, protocol testers and business telephone switches to verify device compatibility. These tests are free of charge per se, but participants must pay for the transport and commissioning of the equipment. NTT will hold two briefing sessions to introduce the pilot program and applications.
