Local opera’s artistic style and performing characteristics come from a specific cultural ecology. “Ecological protection” is an important issue for the survival and development of local opera. We have noticed that the operas that survive in some places are still alive to this day, though they are ancient. Such as the pear orchard opera in Quanzhou, Fujian, when the new work is very gratifying; also, for example, has long been into the “endangered” Kunqu Opera in Suzhou, Jiangsu is also full of vitality. In the past there was a perception that the more occluded the easier it was to preserve the purity of “cultural traditions.” Of course, this view has some truth. However, in fact, Suzhou and Quanzhou are not blocked. The former is the back garden of the cosmopolitan Shanghai. The latter is even more an important port for opening up to the outside world in history.
