Tracing back to the laughter of the ancient Greek Alexander the Great in India through The Legend of Alexandria, it elaborates and analyzes the cultural connotation and philosophical significance of “Laughing Rhetoric ”. Alexander’s Indian smile reflects his keen insight into the world and the future. Their laughter represents both a kind of wisdom and strength, but also saturated with ridicule. Monteigas, European humanist, cites the story of Alexander the Great. He considered laughter to be serious, a manifestation of free will and soul power. Laughter is not just a reproduction of a comedy plot or a pleasant scene, it’s a moral gesture. It shows, straightforwardly and bravely, the whole picture of the human mind image, showing human beings’ fear of life, especially the serious thinking about the illness and death of a living. Montaigne laughter make him old age harmonious body and mind, calm face life and death. Laughter in Alexandria and Montaigne, is a sensory movement, is a moral expression, is the symbolic tension of life, is a rhetorical form. Laughter can make people clear self-existence, people think life, inspire life, to show the vitality and tension of life.
