赤枝栲(Castanopsis kawakamii)俗名格氏栲,属壳斗科栲属植物,主要分布在我国福建、江西、广东和广西南部山地(海拔200—1000米)的天然林内,台湾省山地海拔2400—2900米处的天然林内也很多。该树种一般和其它树种组成混交林,而福建省三明市小湖地区的赤栲林几乎呈纯林状态,面积约2万亩,是我国特有的赤枝栲森林群落。1958年,国务院把它定为“三明格氏拷自然保护区”,由于赤枝栲是我国南方特有用材、园林观赏和木本粮食
