托尔斯泰在《艺术论》里把艺术归结为感人。这个定义显然有疑问。我在奇尔科廷(chilcotin)人那里买来一个筐子,摆在组合矮柜上,客人都说它编得很美,很艺术。但我从没见它感动过谁。人们喜欢它。但人们也喜欢打麻将,喜欢奶油蛋糕。当然,我们可以不承认编得很艺术的筐子真的可以叫作艺术或艺术品。我们也可能发现这筐子中吸引我们的东西隐隐约约是有感人之处。这且不去深究。这个定义的疑问主要来自另一个方面:
Tolstoy attributes the art to “art theory.” This definition is obviously in doubt.
