While planning the attack on Yugoslavia, the U.S. military moved quickly to test the precise strike capability of its SLAM offensive missiles using only GPS coordinates as aiming point. In general, SLAM missiles are maneuvered by the flight control system of a human pilot aircraft during the last few seconds of their flight. The first ever test of a single GPS guided SLAM missile was conducted by a naval major Rich Burr driving an F / A-18C aircraft at the Point Mugu Sea Range in California.
