抗战时期,暨南大学一直努力想从“孤岛”迁往更为安全的大后方办学,但屡屡为国民政府教育部所拒。当局虽有借高校内迁之际调整中国高等教育布局以促进西部开发的考虑,但暨大并不在计划之列,相反,暨大奉令长期留驻“孤岛”,与日伪作斗争,作为虚悬的政治象征,以向海外华侨社会昭示中国坚持抗战的坚定决心。由是,暨大内迁之事一误再误,学术教学遭受严重损失,华侨高等教育功能几近丧失。 During the war of resistance against Japan, Jinan University struggled to move away from “isolated islands” to a safer rear, but it was often rejected by the Ministry of Education of the National Government.
