According to a research report of the industrial consulting firm Freedonia Group, the demand for membrane materials in the United States will continue to grow at an annual rate of 8.2% over the next five years. The factors driving the growth of the membrane material market are the new separation membrane technology and the expansion of the use of membrane materials. Major users include petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, biological fields, food processing and water treatment industries. Sales of membrane materials in the United States are expected to increase from 1.02 billion U.S. dollars in 1997 to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2002, when membrane materials will account for the total number of membrane separation systems.
