Using the US data from the 2007 International Social Survey on Leisure Time, this paper examines the impact of the social participation of five voluntary groups on the level of general trust in people. By comparing inclusive and exclusive organizations, the results of different regression models show that participating in inclusive associations has a significant positive effect on the formation of universal trust, and that the higher the frequency of participation in such organizations, the more socially formed The degree of trust is also higher. At the same time, participating in exclusive organizations has no obvious effect on the formation of universal trust. Only in inclusive organizations does individual communication have a positive impact on universal trust. The policy-making and practical implications of this finding are that in order to promote universal trust, we need to provide a social environment conducive to the activities of inclusive organizations and their organizations.
