Since March 1996, Liao Xiaoyi set up a non-governmental environmental protection organization, the Beijing Global Village Environmental Culture Center (hereinafter referred to as the Global Village), and started implementing a series of environmental protection plans to become a more influential environmental activist at home and abroad. During President Clinton’s visit to China in 1998, she was invited to attend the presidential round table as one of seven non-governmental environmentalists in China. In 2002, during his visit to China, Norwegian Prime Minister Bondevik specially interviewed this non-governmental environmental lady. She had been a “green card” during the United States, and later gave up her “green card” because of her devotion to the cause of environmental protection in China. She is
