This study examines the impact of the new Internet use by the United States, the largest developing country, China and the largest developed country, on the participation of social organizations. We think different channels of communication will promote the participation of different NGOs. According to the media alternative theory and rational choice theory, Internet use in different channels of communication is positively related to the participation of organizations. This study also uses annual social survey data from both China and the United States and the Pew Center survey data to prove that some channels of communication, including the use of the Internet, are related to the participation of social organizations. Data analysis found that the number of per capita social organizations participating in the United States is much higher than that of China. It also found that there was a significant positive correlation between the use of the Internet in China and the participation activities and willingness to participate in some new nonprofit organizations. In the United States, the use of the Internet even directly cultivated Some new types of social organizations such as interest groups and nonprofit organizations. This study shows from some angles that Internet use will promote the development of non-governmental organizations, especially new interest groups and nonprofit organizations. It also shows the similarities and differences between China and the United States regarding Internet use and social organization participation .
