清末时期新式学堂的产生是“西学东渐”在我国深化发展的结果，是清政府充分借鉴西洋新式教育制度的结果。大量新式学堂在全国各地的广泛建立，清政府吸收借鉴英关和日本免费师范教育制度，在我国开创了免费师范教育体系，对后世产生深远影响。
