我以为存在一种“鲁美油画现象”。鲁美油画自八十年代中叶以来屡在各种展览中夺牌获奖,引得画坛注目,这似乎就是一种现象。但我指的“现象”不仅于此,至少认为鲁美油画的崭头露角只是现象的表现。根据我对鲁美油画的观访,我感到鲁美油画家这几年在艺术上的努力要点是“调整”。概而言之,是把含有外在目的“创作”状态调整为从观念到语言相对自足的个人艺术状态。鲁美油画出了一些有影响的作品不是偶然的。鲁美油画家具有比较开阔的社会意识,当油画艺术观念仍然比较狭窄、许多写实油画跌入风土、风情窠臼时,鲁美油画较多反映了现代人心灵的丰富性与精神冲突;当油画界出现关注语言的呼声时,鲁美油画得益于画家自觉与专家办班,注重了作品的制作,在语言探索上走出了不领风气却踏踏实实的步子;在整个八十年代社会艺术思潮活跃、思变心理急切的背景中,鲁美油画的发展比较稳健……这些,都是鲁美油画有一个整体形象的原因。
