Italian Tonale has the meaning of “shades,” and architecture and product designer David Chipperfield names the dishware he designed for Alessi, probably because of its color originated from the famous tonal approach of the Italian painter Giorgio Morandi. In addition to the landscape of Bologna, Morandi is the most commonly painted artifacts. He spent years studying colors and constantly practicing hues, luminosity and the arrangement of objects he painted, refining his unique harmony and calmness. David Chipperfield designed a series of plates, bottles, bowls, cups, etc. on solid ceramic, glass and wooden utensils using the earthy colors Morandi commonly used. Each of the utensils looks or feels flat on their own, yet when they are randomly placed together, they form a simple and peaceful tabletop landscape. Website: www.alessi.com
