中国林业科学研究院在“七五”期间认真贯彻了“依靠”和“面向”方针,坚持科研与生产相结合的科研方向,解决了林业中带有全局性、综合性、关键性和基础性的科学技术问题,完成了国家攻关、国际合作和重点推广的项目200多项,取得了各类成果306项,其中获奖137项(国家、部、省级) ,推广成果年均创收约10亿元,取得了明显的经济效益和社会效益。与此同时,注意加强领导班子的建设和科技人才的培养,提高了科技队伍的整体素质,建成了一支有较强攻坚能力的科技队伍。五年来,不仅成果多,效益高,还积累了有益的经验。
