本文选自Life with Father一书。 God and My Father(1932),Life with Father(1935),Life withMother (1938)。
This article is from Life with Father. Author Clarence Day (1874-1935) Born in New York City, graduated from Yale University. Upon graduating from college, he became a member of the New York Stock Exchange and became a shareholder of his father’s brokerage firm. He often contributes to New Yorker, but with little reputation. In his later years his family life as an infant theme, written in three books: God and My Father (1932), Life with Father (1935), Life withMother (1938). These three books made him famous, the pieces of which were adapted into a theatrical (named Life with Father) by Howard Lindsay and RusselCrouse, staged on Broadway and enduring. The central characters in these three books are Father, a securities trader. Clarence Day’s satirical and witty way of portraying Father. We read these articles, just think ’father’ to jump out from the book to talk to us, or quarrel. Although his father is temper and stubborn, and always imposes his will on others, he also has his lovely place, which is straightforward.
