川剧艺术事业,是一项历史悠久的、为广大群众喜闻乐见的社会文化事业。历史上的官家戏班、私家戏班、随军戏班以及民间艺人组织的各种戏班(灯班、皮影班、木偶班等),都是由社会上各方面的力量来兴办的。但建国以后,我们把民间职业戏班全部接管过来,改为专业艺术表演团体,即省、市、地、县级专业剧团。其性质无论是全民所有制还是集体所有制,实际上都是由画家养起来,由文化部门统一领导,作为宣传工具使用,演职员按行政干部管理,实行固定工资制。这样搞的结果,专业剧团都成了铁饭碗、大锅饭,没有竞争,没有活力,束缚了艺术生产力,从而造成舞台表演后继乏人,台下观众越来越少的困局,使川剧艺术事业出现了严重危机。80年代以来,通过振兴川剧,取得了一定的成绩,但就全局而
