November 30, 1953 The Central Institute of Health convened a forum on the prevention and control of schistosomiasis japonica in Beijing. In addition to the staff of the Parasitology Department of the hospital as well as relevant staff of the East China Branch of the hospital, representatives of the Central Ministry of Health and experts in medical insects and pharmacology at the Peking Union Medical College attended the conference. Schistosomiasis is a disease caused by the parasitism of Schistosoma japonicum in human blood vessels. Adult parasites of Schistosoma japonicum parasitize human or other mammalian portal
