Although everyone has been familiar with HMS for some time, the application of this common technology has so far failed to draw the attention of the mining industry. It should be pointed out that the concept of heavy medium separation should bring tremendous benefits to the mining industry in the future as the cost of basic investment and operation increases and the environmental concerns are raised. Prior to high-energy, high-cost grinding operations, coarsely crushed metal and industrial minerals are pre-enriched to pre-reject 30% to 70% of the tailings. As a result, the amount of ore fed into expensive grinding, subsequent flotation or leaching operations is reduced. This process, including the concept of pre-selection, can greatly improve the economic benefits of mines. From the current technical, economic and environmental perspective, this effect shows a promising future for the application of HM separations in the field of metallic and non-metallic minerals
