The construction of ships built by foreign capital in Whampoa began in the mid-1940s. After the Opium War, Western capitalist countries stepped up their economic aggression against China step by step. In order to expand trade plunder, they also began to invest in the shipbuilding industry that serves port shipping while stepping up the dumping of raw materials on China and plundering raw materials. Huangpu’s shipbuilding industry is the first invasion of modern foreign capital in China to invest and set up factories in the place. The fourth and fifties were the start-up and gradual development of the shipbuilding industry in Whampoa. The sixties were its heyday. The seventies began to decline. The infiltration of foreign capital into the shipbuilding industry in Huangpu resulted in a direct blow to Huangpu’s original manual ship-repairing industry, making it impossible to develop into a national shipping industry and, on the other hand, the earliest industrial worker in China.
