The aftershock sequences of the last three strong earthquakes in the Eastern Mediterranean are studied. The 3 strong earthquakes are respectively M_W = 7.1 on November 22, 1995, M_L = 5.8 on August 3, 1993 and M_W = 6.8 on October 9, 1996. The first two earthquakes occurred in the Gulf of Aqaba, the last of which occurred offshore off the south-western coast of Cyprus. The modified Omori formula gives a good fit for the attenuation of aftershock activity for all events. The p-values of the two sequences in the Gulf of Aqaba are relatively low (p = 0.90 in 1993; p = 0.75 in 1995), reflecting the slow decay of aftershock activity. This may be due to the lower heat flux near the epicenter. P = 1.09 for the Cyprus sequence, similar to many other sequences in the world.
