地球物理探矿大部份应用在直接找矿方面,例如用磁法直接寻找磁性铁矿和含铜磁鉄矿;用自然电流法寻找硫化矿床;用电阻法寻找某些良导性的金屬矿床等。但是地球物理探矿不仅用于直接寻找这些矿体,而更广泛的应用却是解決某些地質問題,起到間接找矿的作用。例如查明某些地質构造,填繪地下地質图,有时也利用矿物共生的关系,查明某些有显著物理特性的次要矿种,以达到寻找主要矿体的目的。有时还可以利用地質的找矿标誌和成矿規律,提供給地質人員进一步的探寻矿体。这次在寻找鋁土矿床上应用地球物理探矿,就是間接找矿的一个例子。地球物理探矿在寻找鋁土矿上应用的实例,在我国以往的地球物理探矿工作中还是很少的,从文献中
Geophysical prospecting is mostly used in direct prospecting, for example, the magnetic method is used to directly search for magnetic iron ore and copper-bearing magnetite ore; natural current method is used to search for sulfide ore deposits; resistance method is used to search for some good conductivity metal deposits . However, geophysical exploration is not only used to directly search for these ore bodies, but more extensive application is to solve some geological problems and play the role of indirect prospecting. For example, to identify certain geological structures, fill the underground geological map, and sometimes the relationship between mineral symbiosis, identify some of the significant physical properties of secondary minerals, in order to achieve the purpose of finding the main ore body. Sometimes you can also use the geological prospecting signs and mineralization rules, to provide geological personnel to further explore the ore body.
