伊宁市是新疆苹果主要产区之一,但因过去管理不善,病虫害发生普遍,产量低微,平均株产不过30斤,亩产也只400—500斤;而这样极低的收成亦不稳定.为了寻求提高苹果产量的有效措施,并树立榜样,在上级和当地党政的领导下,自治区农科所与伊宁市农技站等单位协作,自1958—1959年在伊宁市果树较多的红旗人民公社第六果树生产大队进行丰产示范试验,两年都获得了丰产,其结果列入表1.
