琴岛画会是一九三八年十一月成立的。那正是青岛沦入日寇铁蹄下的年月。美丽的海滨城市成了一片死寂的文化沙漠,而画会的出现却如同沙漠深层流淌的甘泉那样,振奋着人们的心。起初画会会员不多,基本上以战前在北平京华美专学习的同学赵仲玉、吕品、万里、叶又新等为骨干。他们在北平时都受过学生爱国运动的洗礼,七七事变北平沦陷后,他们回到当时尚未沦陷的青岛。第二年青岛又被日军占领,在彷徨中他们常在赵仲玉家相聚,也一同作画。由
Qin Island painting will be established in November 1938. That is exactly where Qingdao fell into the iron age of the Japanese invaders.
