出处:汉·刘向《新序·杂事四》:“每暮令人往,窃为楚亭夜善灌其瓜,勿令知也。”解析:梁国的大夫宋就,曾做过边县县令,边县与楚国相邻。梁国的边亭与楚国的边亭都种瓜。住在梁国边亭的百姓勤劳,常常给瓜灌水,瓜因此长得好;楚国边亭的百姓比较懒惰,很少浇瓜,所以长得很差。负责管理楚国边亭的县令看见梁国边亭的瓜长得那么好,自己边亭的瓜却如此之差,心里很恼火。
