Objective To investigate the relationship between lower extremity vascular lesions (PVD) and gender and serum uric acid (UA) in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods The blood vessels of lower extremities in 82 male and 70 female patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were detected by color Doppler ultrasonography. Blood UA, blood glucose, blood lipid and HbA 1c were measured simultaneously. Results The blood UA was (328.12 ± 107.30) μmol / L, HbA_ (1c) (7.74 ± 1.83)%, and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (2.56 ± 0.65) mmol / L in male patients with PVD. <0.01). There was no significant difference in the blood UA between PVD group and non-PVD group (P> 0.05). The incidence of lower extremity vascular lesions in male high UA group (82.14%) was significantly higher than that in normal UA group (53.70%) (P <0.05). Conclusion The serum levels of uric acid in patients with type 2 diabetes are closely related to the vascular diseases of lower extremities. The uric acid lowering therapy should be emphasized in male patients.
