“,”Objective To study the relationship between altered thiamine metabolism and cerebral amyloid deposition. Methods Thirty mild to moderate patients with AD and 1 1 2 control elderly with cognitive ability in normal range were recruited.AD patients received positron emission tomography with Pittsburgh Compound B(PET-PiB)and ratios of standard uptake value(SUVRs)were calculated to quantitatively measure cerebral amyloid deposition. All the subjects received neuropsychological examinations, including Mini Mental Status Examination(MMSE),Activity of Daily Living Scale(ADL), Clinical Dementia Rating(CDR),and the measurement of blood thiamine metabolites. Results Blood thiamine and its esters in AD were not significantly correlated with the average SUVRs in cortex. The scores of MMSE, ADL and CDR were also not correlated with the average SUVRs of cortex. Conclusion Altered thiamine metabolism and cognitive impairment in AD may be not correlated with cerebral amyloid deposition.
