Hawthorne in the “birthmark” through characterization and story line shows the heroine’s distorted humanity and the heroine’s tragic fate. Although it embodies the oppression of women in the patriarchal culture from a feminist perspective, as one of Hawthorne’s successful works, it has a deeper significance in reflecting Hawthorne’s thinking on the relationship between man and nature. Starting from the analysis of the core figures, this essay reinterprets the birthmark of American writer Hawthorne ’s novel “Birthmark” and analyzes the distortion of heroic Elmer human nature caused by extreme scientific thinking. This shows that George Ana is the victim who misjudges the relationship between man and nature The result of the relationship, which is consistent with the ecological literature point of view.
