In the contemporary Russian playwright Grissławicz’s titled “How I Eat Dogs”, I describe the protagonist’s anxiety about his identity and the difficult construction of individual existence. The sudden collapse of the two communities undergone by the protagonists destroyed his coherent consciousness of past identities and prevented them from recognizing certain social and cultural identities and thus staying in the status of fragments. Grissłowitz attempts to draw the strength of spiritual cohesion from the home category such as family and childhood, and the national category represented by the Soviet countries, to reconstruct personal identities and ethnic communities. However, the above strategies either retreat to the past or rise to an abstraction level and can not overcome the crisis of identity identity in the present reality.
