According to The Pig Site’s Nov. 11, 2016, a new study in the United States examining the risk of human exposure to flu in swine found that the peak H1N1 flu in pig-producing areas came ahead of schedule in 2016. The team examined the spatiotemporal relationship between swine production and human flu in 100 North Carolina counties. The state is the second-largest pig-producing state in the United States with nearly 10 million live pigs on hand. Researchers believe that the H1N1 epidemic, high-density pig farming to expand the spread of the flu. However, they reason that this finding may not be related to pigs, but may be related to other factors, such as other diseases
