After the port opened in Tianjin in 1860, modern modes of transportation such as ships, railways and highways were successively introduced into the Tianjin area, thus promoting the evolution of the mode of transport between the Tianjin city and the surrounding bazaars (towns). Due to the fewer shipping lines, the railway is more suitable for long-distance transportation, less developed automobile transportation, and the relatively low shipping cost of civilian vessels, but also suitable for short-distance transport, and Wuqing, Ninghe, Tianjin, Jinghai, Baodi five counties quite close to the city of Tianjin , So all kinds of modes of transportation have different status in passenger transportation and freight transportation. Modern transport modes such as ships, railways and highways play an increasingly important role in passenger transport. They have even dominated in some areas. However, traditional modes of transport such as civilian vessel shipping still dominate freight transport. Nevertheless, the evolution of modes of transport between 1860 and 1937 still had a major impact on the flow of people, the circulation of goods, and the rise and fall of bazaars (towns) between the city of Tianjin and surrounding bazaars (towns).
