1985年以来,能在小型盒式磁带上记录两小时节目的8mm录像系统进入市场,引起摄录机市场的巨大扩展。同一时期在磁带、磁头、信号处理电路方面取得显著的改进,而且改进的CCD 成像允许摄录机使用者记录如TV 广播同样质量的画面。因为需要经常编辑和复制摄录的画面,所以画面不仅必须有高的清晰度,也应有高的信噪比和良好的波形。建立在8mm 录像系统基础上的高带8mm 录像机是1989年4月商品化的小型高质量录像机格式,它具有更高的载波频率,更宽的频偏和预加重短时间常数。为了记录短波长,采用了高性能的磁带和磁头以及正反馈限幅器、宽带记录/重放放大器、和Y/C分离器等新电路。这样高带8mm录像系统不仅有高于400TV 线的清晰度,而且也有高的信噪比和良好的波形。
